What is supposed to be a quieter time in politics as everyone settles into a summer of weddings, BBQs, camping and cottage trips, is actually a summer of intense political activity in HWAD. We have a summer with potential candidates contemplating the federal Liberal nomination in HWAD. It’s a very exciting time!
As an association, it is often difficult to connect the general public to federal issues, so where exercising your vote as a member of the Liberal Party of Canada for our next candidate is crucial, come join us now as we spend a summer of connecting at a grassroots level to every individual in our riding. Right now, our responsibility as an association is to lay the groundwork for our next HWAD Liberal candidate and we need your help building a strong team of local volunteers, supporters, members and donors.
Please enjoy this summertime newsletter and consider getting involved because every bit helps and we are so much stronger as team.
Please join us at The Whistling Walrus, 1508 Upper James St, Hamilton on Saturday, July 26 at 12:00 pm. We will head out at 1 pm sharp for our canvas and reconvene around 4 pm, back at The Whistling Walrus, where we can share our day’s canvassing stories!

“My Use of Liberalist during the 2014 Provincial Election” – Chris Kurzyna, HWAD Director
Since 1990, I have used several programs for data entry. I began with the Travelodge Hospitality Marketing Rewards Program. For Elections Ontario I’ve transferred data from enumerators’ lists to voters’ lists. Additionally, both provincially and federally, I’ve tracked the Liberal supporters, donors etc. for the candidates on different programs including ManageElect. READ ON
Growing Interest in the HWAD Nomination
By Denise O’Connor, VP Candidate Search
In recent weeks we have been contacted by a number of people expressing interest in pursuing the opportunity to represent the Liberal party in our riding in next year’s federal election. The nomination committee has met formally with 3 potential contestants and chatted informally with others.
To date, only one person has publicly declared his intention to contest the nomination and is preparing to undergo LPC’s vetting process. Once he has been “green lit”, we will advise you of his contact information and hopefully others who have qualified as well.

Environment and Economic Development
Keith Robson, VP Policy
If anyone needed a reminder about the need to protect our environment to preserve economic
development over the longer term, the recent flooding in Manitoba and Saskatchewan is just that.
The Globe and Mail reported this week on the impact of not preserving wetlands/ ponds and not improving drainage of agricultural land. Without understanding or caring, the result will be dramatic floods that have already had severe economic consequences and are likely to have further consequences. The
report highlights that if the same amount of rain that fell this year had fallen in the 1950s, the Assiniboine River might have reached only half of its current peak level. READ ON…..
